Watson Minnesota
Hans O. Alm and Anne I. Kanten
were married May 31, 1890 in Zion Lutheran Church rural Watson, MN |
With the exception of Julia Alm (born 1895/6, probably in Wisconsin), all of them were baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Watson.

After their marriage and the births of Iver, Oscar, and Alvin, Hans and Anne moved/spent an extended period of time in Ashland Wisconsin where Hans' sister Oline and husband John Olson, and Hans' uncle lived.
According to her daughter Ruby, Anne recalled being very unhappy there. She said there were too many trees, and "the only way to see the sky was to look straight up." There may also have been another reason: Hans & Anne probably lost their two youngest, Alvin and Julia, in Ashland. Zion Church records indicate that Hans and Anne's unnamed child/children were buried on the same day as Hans' mother Johanne:
Alvin was accounted for in the 1895 Wisconsin Census; Julia was not. Since Alvin was born at the end of December 1894, it is likely that if Julia was a full-term infant, she would have been born in very late 1895 - or possibly even early 1896. There is no record of Julia's baptism at Zion, so it may be she was born in Ashland. It is also possible she was premature. According to family stories, both children died in 1895; Zion church and cemetery records confirm that they died before May of 1896. |
