On Friday, July 29th [1932], at St. Luke's Hospital at Fargo, H.A. Kroshus of Perley, passed away at the age of 79 years.  Deceased had been suffering from hardening of the arteries for the past three or four years which was the cause of his death.

Among the sturdy pioneers who brought about the development of Norman County, few were better known or have been more active in that line of work than he.  He was one of the most substantial landowners of the Perley neighborhood and one of the most progressive and public-spirited citizens of that part of the county.  In addition to his large land holdings, Mr. Kroshus was a member of the board of directors of the First State Bank of Perley, a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Elevator Company at that place, and has been one of the leaders in all worthy enterprises affecting the development and prosperity of that section of the county.

The deceased is a native son of Minnesota, being born in Houston County on June 5, 1853. When he was a year old he moved with his parents to Winneshiek County, Iowa, and when quite young became a practical farmer.  In 1874 he was married to Miss Christie Melbostad and in 1878 they came to the Red River country and homesteaded a tract of one hundred and thirty-seven acres in section 30 of what later came to be organized as Mary Township.  As Mr. Kroshus prospered in his early farming operations, he bought more land and soon owned 1,372 acres of land in the vicinity of his home, in addition to a valuable farm in North Dakota.  He was also a member of the town board for twenty-six years.  For many years he was treasurer of his local school board and also was an active member of the Bethania church.

Mr. Kroshus was the father of fourteen children, five of whom are deceased.  The surviving children are: John, Martin, Henry and Oscar Kroshus of the Perley vicinity; Joseph Kroshus of North Dakota; G.A.K. Anderson, residing near Ada; Mrs. Lauritz Olson of Perley,  Mrs. C. Berg of Hendrum, and Clara at home.  Mrs. Kroshus passed away four years ago.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the family home and at 2:30 o'clock at the Bethania church at Perley. Rev. Thos. Anderson officiated.  Burial was made in the Bethania Cemetery.
