Services held for Emily Hegland
Emily Hegland, age 102, formerly from McIntosh passed away on February 1, 2011, in New Hope. A funeral service was held Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Edina. Interment at New Sweden Cemetery in McIntosh.
Emily Caroline Hegland was bron October 24, 1908 in McIntosh to parents Karl and Elizabeth (Bostrom) Sundquist. Emily grew up and attended a rural school north of McIntosh. At the age of 16 years old Emily left McIntosh to work in Duluth and later in St. Paul. In 1940 she moved back to McIntosh where she was united in marriage to Oscar Hegland on October 9, 1940. Oscar and Emily lived and farmed in rural McIntosh until their retirement. After Oscar's death in 1981, Emily moved to Fosston, Eden Prairie, Prescott Valley AZ, Golden Valley, and New Hope.
Emily was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Emily enjoyed cooking, fine crochet work, and spending time with family. She moved to Nortrdge Care Center, New Hope in September 2010 where she passed away at the age of 102 years, 3 months, and 8 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, her parents, son Wayne, sisters Ruth and Jennie and brother Carl.
