Raymond Grover Sandwick
Born: September 10, 1910 in Corvallis Oregon
Died: April 22, 1971 in Portland Oregon
Ray graduated from Oregon State in electrical engineering. He became the chief of dredging operations for the West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii during his career with the Army Corps of Engineers.
In 1941 he married Dicie "Neila" Wilcox on April 26, 1941. They had three children.
During WWII Ray served in the Pacific. At the end of the war he returned to the Corps. A dredge was named for him, with his wife Neila breaking the bottle of champagne on its bow during its christening ceremony. One crew member said that there were a good number of Corps employees who stayed with the Corps because of Ray.
Raymond died of pneumonia at the age of 60 in 1971. An autopsy discovered cancer of the pituitary gland. Neila passed away in 1999. They are buried in Forest Lawn, Gresham, Oregon.
