Otto and Hulda lived in Lake Park for a short time. When Ed died, Otto returned and took over operation of the Grover homeplace. He made great improvements to the operation. His was one of the first farmhomes with electricity. Otto also developed a prize herd of purebred Holsteins.
In the 1920's, difficult financial times resulted in a bankruptcy that diminished the family's fortunes for a time. Otto rebuilt his operation with effort and "business smarts" and was again successful by the time he retired.
In 1937, Otto turned the farm over to his eldest son, Eugene. 59 year old Otto and Hulda moved to Salem, then Eugene, and finally Bend, Oregon.
Hulda died on February 2, 1965, less than 9 months before Otto's death on October 20, 1965. Otto was 87 years old.
