Gerald Olander Gilbertson
1913-2004
Gerald Olander was the oldest child of Selmer & Betsy Gilbertson. He was born at Eastedge, ND (a small village near Kathryn that no longer exists) on July 29, 1913. When he was a young boy his parents moved to the farm and built their home. He went to the Eastedge school and farmed with his father.
In 1936, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was stationed at Brainerd MN.
He married Mable Junette Huseby on October 29, 1946. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Selmer's farm and took over the farming operation.
In 1980 Gerald and Mable sold the farm and moved to Nome where Gerald continued to do carpenter work. In 1991, they sold the Nome home and moved to Valley City. Mable moved to the Sheyenne Care Center in late 1991 and passed away in 1993. Gerald continued to live in Valley City until May of 2001, when he moved to Bismarck. In April of 2002, Gerald moved to the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. He passed away on April 18, 2004 at the age of 90.
