c. 1950
Esther was barely a year old when her mother died. For a time after her death, she and her brother lived at the Grover Homeplace under the care of their grandmother, Geline. They moved back to Lake Park when "hired girls" were found to take care of the them. After Louis' remarriage to Tillie, she welcomed a kid half-sister, Marion. Esther completed two years of high school and also went to business school in Fargo.
She married August Lindstrom, son of Magnus and Christine Lindstrom, on October 12, 1921. Esther and August had two children: Doris and Charles. They farmed until 1956, when they moved into town. The two of them worked part-time for the food service at Concordia College, and at the lefse factory in Lake Park. Esther also held jobs as a telephone operator and in a drug store in Lake Park.
After August's death in 1967, Esther maintained their home in Lake Park for a time, then moved into an apartment, and spent the last few years of her life in Sunnyside Nursing Home.
August was born November 10, 1890 in Lake Park. He served in the First Division (Big Red One) during WW I in France and Germany. He was first a machine gunner but, because he knew how to drive horses, was reassigned as a wagoner in a supply company. He returned to farming after the war. For a time, he and his brother Nils were partners in a Shell Oil service station.
August and Esther Lindstrom are buried in Eksjo Cemetery, rural Lake Park MN.
