Eveline Geline Grover

Died: November 8, 1975, Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota
Evelyn was
10 years old
 when her mother died, and 14 when she lost her
father. She had a difficult time coming to terms with
their deaths. Evelyn graduated
from Moorhead High School in 1916 and received a teaching certificate
from Moorhead Normal School. For the
next 10 years she would teach
in a number of school districts in Minnesota
and in Lewiston, Idaho.
She married Carl Hegland on October 23, 1926. Carl was the brother of her cousin Elmer's wife, Allette. Carl and Evelyn lived on and farmed the Christian Grover farm until Carl's death in 1943. Evelyn then returned to teaching. She attended summer school in Moorhead, Oregon, and Norway to earn her Bachelor's degree. After a stint in Oregon, she spent the last 8 years of her career teaching at Sharp Elementary in Moorhead. She retired in 1962. Evelyn was opinionated and had an outspoken temper. She was a difficult woman who sadly is most remembered for her sharp tongue and the arguments she incited with members of both her immediate and the extended Grover and Hegland familes. Evelyn died on November 8, 1975, in Moorhead. She is buried with her husband in Concordia Cemetery. |
