Gilbert Iverson

The funeral of the late Gilbert Iverson took place Friday afternoon at the home of Peter Iverson and Zion church, Rev. E I Strom officiated.  The pall-bearers were Ole and Irwin Kanten, John W. Canton, Phillip Canton, Chester M. Iverson and Joseph G. Iverson.  Burial was made in the Zion church cemetery.

Gilbert Iverson was born in Gran, Hadeland Norway April 21, 1850.  His parents were Iver and Anne Halvorson Kanten.  The family came to America in 1864 and lived a short time in Winona county.  They then moved to North Prairie, Fillmore County and came to Chippewa county in 1869.  Mr. Iverson bought railroad land in section 29 of Tunsberg township.

He was married May 18, 1875 to Kirsti Endresen Molden.  She died September 8, 1919.  He is survived by four children, Iver Iverson of Lignite, Mrs. Albert Christenson and Henry Iverson of Minot ND and Eddie Iverson of the township of Westbank, Swift county.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Iverson retired from the farm in 1915 and moved into Watson and two years ago he moved to Minot ND.  In his will Mr. Iverson bequeathed $150 to the activities of the Norwegian Lutheran church.  His children added $20 to this as an "In memoriam" gift.  With the passing of Mr. Iverson the pioneers number one less. He was one of the first settlers on the Minnesota prairie and he went through all the hardships of the frontier life.  He was an industrious man, a  good neighbor, a kind father and took an active interest in all church work.
