Torger Mikkel Hegland 1855-1937

Torger Hegland was born on the Hageland farm in Skafse Annex, Mo parish, Telemark Norway on August 10, 1855.  He was baptized on October 7 of that year in Kviteseid Church. He was named for his paternal grandfather, Tarje (Torger) Mandt.

 

Torger immigrated to the US with his parents in 1861.  After the death of his father in 1868, the 13 year old took on major responsibilities for the operation of the family's farm in Norway Township. He would remain there for the rest of his life. 

Torger married Anne Bandaksli-Anderson on March 12, 1887.  They had eight children.

Torger died on February 1, 1937, at the age of 78.  He and Anne are buried in Highland Prairie Cemetery.
